Most horses, unless unsound, can learn the Simple Change. In such a case, we recommend you discuss with your veterinarian. However, if your horse has soundness issues that interrupt the learning process, you will find that the exercises in this course will still improve every aspect of the horse's training. 


Distance learning is really set up so that you can make it work for your schedule. We have many people in many timezones, and all of them are busy horse people like you. Each week you will get a new module of information for that week. You will receive an email announcement when it has been released. In that module you will find a selection of videos and PDF files. You can watch these on your own timeline, or even download them for offline viewing. The PDFs contain the instructions for the riding exercises. There are instructional videos where we explain in greater detail how to ride the exercise, what you are looking to attain in the exercise, and how to deal with any problems that may arise while riding the exercise. You will also find that there is a demo video of each exercise being ridden by a variety of our course member demo riders, with voiceover commentary by Thomas explaining what is happening, and pointing out mistakes as they occur so that you can recognize then if/when they happen to you.



There are LIVE Q&As and LIVE Hot Seat sessions at certain times, and they are always recorded for those who cannot attend live. You do NOT need to attend these live (even if you submit video for review or questions to be answered), but we highly encourage you to do so, if you can because you can ask your questions live and interact with us. These are all recorded and can be watched later or downloaded for later viewing/listening.

Of course, it would be impossible for us to guarantee something that is so far outside of our control. No true, compassionate, and experienced horse person would do that. However, we have taught this process successfully to many horses and riders. It is a proven process that works.

You will find that it is all very complementary. In this course we aim to give you tools you can apply regardless of the courses you are taking currently, or have taken in the past.

If your horse is very young, very green, not yet cantering, or has significant health or soundness problems, then your horse is not yet ready for this course.

This is the perfect way for you to dip your toes into the Ritter-verse! No matter what stage of your riding journey you are in, if you are sincere about wanting to learn to train in a way that is mindful and collaboratively-designed, there is absolutely no better place for you to be. This course will give you the tools and resources that will help you become a better rider, better able to communicate effectively and compassionately with your horse, and will help you better troubleshoot your own and your horse’s problems so you can start transforming those failures into successes! With our mind-body-spirit approach, you will have access to trainings that not only help you to be a better rider, but a happier one, too.

You and your horse should be ready for, or close to ready for working on the simple changes. Young, untrained, and newly started horses are not suitable (there are other courses more suitable for lesser trained horses). Unsound horses are not suitable (first work on improving your horse's soundness with our other courses).  You and your horse should be already acquainted with the canter, and should be able to ride canter -> trot transitions and trot -> canter transitions with relative reliability.

We try to be very all-encompassing and give you the tools and resources you need to be the best kind of rider YOU want to be. You do not need any specific tack. The principles for a good riding and horsemanship are universal, regardless of whether you are riding with Dressage tack, Western tack, a bitless bridle, a snaffle bridle, a cavesson, or a double bridle.

Not a problem. All sessions are always recorded and the recordings are uploaded to the membership platform within 24-48 hours after the session is over.  

Yes! In fact, you won’t be the only one. We have a growing community of non-traditional horses and riders in our courses and in our membership. It is a melting pot where everyone finds common ground through the love of the horses, the passion for learning, and the ability to apply the principles and exercises regardless of the breed of the horse, background of horse or rider, or the preferred equipment to use.

You need a horse to ride and a relatively level space to ride in. An arena with adequate footing is recommended but we have members who don’t have a standard “arena” to ride in. In most cases, you can modify the exercises based on your riding conditions and we are able to suggest modifications whenever you need help finding a suitable way to modify an exercise for your situation. Not required but recommended: approximately 20 cones or other arena markers (homemade is fine), a smartphone/video camera/robotic camera to record your rides. You will also need an internet connection and a computer/tablet/smartphone with which to access the course materials and Facebook Group.

You can access everything with an internet browser. You will need to download the free Zoom app to access the Q&A sessions. We give complete instructions inside the membership platform, and if you have trouble or need help our team can help you get it figured out.
